In celebration of 'International Plastic Bag-Free Day', Progressive English School's Social Science Club organized an engaging and informative workshop on 'Paper Bag and Cloth Bag Making' for students of classes VI to VIII on Wednes- day, 3rd July 2024. This event was aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and pro- moting the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as paper and cloth bags.
The workshop began with a warm welcome speech by Mrs. Sadicka, the incharge of the Social Science Club, who emphasized the significance of International Plastic Bag-Free Day. She spoke about the detrimental environmental impact of plastic waste, especially single-use plastic bags, which contribute to pollution and harm wildlife.
The main objective of the workshop was to discourage the use of plastic carry bags and other non-biodegradable materials, encouraging students to become advocates of sustainability. The hands-on session was led by Ms. Nasila, the school's Art & Craft Teacher, who guided the students through the process of creating their own paper and cloth bags. Students brought a variety of materials, including old newspapers, magazines, scrap cloth, and other recyclable items, to craft their eco-friendly bags.
Ms. Nasila demonstrated different techniques for making durable and creative paper bags, showcasing various designs that could be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The students were taught how to fold and glue the paper correctly, ensuring the bags were strong enough to carry weight. This activity not only fostered creativity and teamwork but also encouraged the students to think about sustainability in a fun and practical way.
The session concluded with a motivating speech by Mr. Sabir VK, Vice Principal of Progressive English School. He applauded the efforts of the students and teachers involved in the workshop. He encouraged students to continue using eco-friendly alternatives in their daily lives and to spread awareness about the environmental crisis caused by plastic waste.
