On 9th July 2024, Progressive English School conducted a highly informative and action-packed 'Fire and Rescue Orientation Class and Mock Drill' to educate students and staff on fire safety protocols and emergency prepared- ness. The event was organized by the Science Department in collaboration with the local Fire and Rescue Station in Payyannur. The session aimed to equip the school community with the necessary knowledge and skills to act swiftly and effectively in the event of a fire or any other emergency.
The session commenced with a warm welcome from Mrs. Sheeba N. faculty of Science, who highlighted the importance of fire safety education and the need to be vigilant in all emergency situations. She emphasized the school's commitment to creating a safe environment and encouraged everyone to take the session seriously as such knowledge could potentially save lives.
The orientation was led by Mr. P.V. Prakash Kumar, the Station Officer of the Fire and Rescue Station, Payyannur. Mr. Kumar, with his extensive experience in firefighting and rescue operations, delivered an engaging and educational presentation on fire safety basics. The students learned about common fire hazards in both home and school settings, including electrical short circuits, gas leaks, and improper handling of flammable materials.
Mr. Prakash Kumar also detailed the key steps to take when a fire breaks out. The session covered crucial information on emergency evacuation procedures, including how to identify escape routes, avoid smoke inhalation, and assist others, especially vulnerable individuals. during an evacuation. He stressed the importance of con- ducting regular fire drills to ensure that everyone in the school knows what to do in case of a real emergency. Following the theoretical session, the Fire and Rescue team staged a highly realistic and impressive "Mock Drill",
simulating a fire emergency scenario. Students and staff swiftly evacuated the building in an orderly manner, following the instructions provided earlier. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Sabir VK, Vice Principal of Progressive English School. He expressed his gratitude to Mr. P.V. Prakash Kumar and the entire Fire and Rescue team for their valuable time and for imparting such crucial knowledge.
